TSU is the first university established beyond the Urals. Currently, it is one of the leading universities in Russia. Scientists at TSU have created a large scientific foundation in the field of additive technologies, in particular, metal-ceramic composite materials for 3D-printing, methods of creating ligatures for producing new generation steels, new foundry technologies for aluminum and magnesium alloys, and research in the field of superhard ceramics based on aluminum-magnesium boride. Now scientists at Tomsk State University and IPPM SB RAS, supported by the Russian Science Foundation, are developing a new method of 3D printing that allows the use of previously inaccessible materials: metals, metal ceramics, and high-energy materials. In 2021, the FabLab center for youth innovative creativity was opened for students. It has a full production cycle, from digital design and modeling to direct digital manufacturing. This center has a 3D printer farm, a VR station, and CNC machines for working with metal, wood, and plastic. TSU was the first university in Russia to establish an Industrial Partners Council. The university trains personnel for companies, organizes advanced training courses, solves technological problems in production and acts as a partner in creating innovative developments. Today the university has agreements with more than a hundred industrial companies.
