FRUTTETO BISTRO:

How can an intimate dining area and an open professional kitchen coexist within a single space?
At Frutteto Bistro, the two zones are visually connected yet require opposing lighting conditions. Guests need focused accents and calm surroundings, while the kitchen team requires bright, uniform task lighting.
The lighting design is built around three layers. Adjustable surface-mounted luminaires highlight tables and textured surfaces, visually separating the closely spaced seating without partitions. Recessed luminaires provide ambient illumination and support orientation throughout the space. Linear LED profiles create a uniform working layer in the kitchen and emphasise the architecture of the partition between the dining area and the food preparation zone.
Each functional area was calculated separately. On the kitchen’s key work surface, the average illuminance reaches 730 lx, with a maximum of 1,290 lx. Despite these higher light levels, the open kitchen does not compromise the intimate atmosphere of the dining area.
The design was tested under two conditions: artificial lighting only and with daylight taken into account. In the evening, attention is focused on the tables and interior details. During the day, artificial lighting complements the natural light while preserving the visual hierarchy of the space.
As a result, the dining area, open kitchen and supporting spaces each have their own lighting logic while remaining part of a cohesive composition. Guests experience an intimate atmosphere, the kitchen team benefits from comfortable working conditions, and the lighting supports the interior architecture throughout the day.
