COVER — концепция настенного светильника-арт-объекта, разработанная в рамках проекта «ТРЕНДЫ» компании МДМ-ЛАЙТ. Отправной точкой стал один из наиболее узнаваемых образов советского быта и 1990-х годов — красный ковёр на стене. Для многих людей он связан с домашним теплом, семейными фотографиями, праздниками и интерьерами детства. В COVER этот предмет коллективной памяти перенесён в современный дизайн и превращён в источник света.
Проект строится на эффекте узнавания. Сначала зритель видит знакомый силуэт и орнамент, но затем обнаруживает, что перед ним не настоящий ковёр и не декоративная копия, а световой объект. Это несоответствие вызывает первую эмоциональную реакцию — удивление и восторг от неожиданного прочтения культурного кода. После него появляется более личное чувство: тёплая ностальгия, связанная с собственными воспоминаниями и опытом.
COVER не стремится восстановить исторический интерьер и не использует прошлое только как ироничную цитату. Задача проекта — показать, что знакомый бытовой образ может стать материалом для современного промышленного дизайна. Ковёр перестаёт быть фоном и превращается в активный элемент пространства. Он собирает внимание, формирует композиционный центр и делает стену частью светового сценария.
Светильник имеет настенное исполнение. Его конструктивную основу формирует алюминиевый корпус с внутренней контурной светодиодной подсветкой. Свет подчёркивает внешний силуэт, усиливает восприятие орнамента и создаёт ощущение глубины. Мягкое декоративное свечение поддерживает ассоциацию с домашним уютом, но подаёт её средствами современной светотехники. В выключенном состоянии COVER воспринимается как графичный интерьерный объект, а при включении получает дополнительный световой объём и становится эмоциональным акцентом.
Концепция допускает широкую кастомизацию. Размер, пропорции, цветовое решение и рисунок могут изменяться в зависимости от архитектуры и задачи проекта. Орнамент может оставаться близким к узнаваемому образу красного ковра либо получать более лаконичное, современное или специально разработанное прочтение. Это позволяет использовать общую идею в пространствах разного масштаба и характера, не превращая серию в набор одинаковых декоративных объектов.
В коммерческом интерьере COVER может стать точкой притяжения, фотозоной или визуальным символом пространства. Он рассчитан на бары, рестораны, лобби, шоурумы, бутики, общественные зоны и представительские кабинеты. В частном интерьере светильник может работать как эмоционально значимый арт-объект, соединяющий личную память и современную эстетику. Его функция заключается не в обеспечении основного освещения, а в создании светового акцента, атмосферы и узнаваемого образа.
При адаптации под конкретный объект необходимо определить габариты и вес конструкции, способ настенного крепления, расположение светодиодных источников, равномерность контурного свечения, тепловой режим, размещение блока питания и возможность обслуживания. Отдельно подбираются материал и технология изготовления декоративной поверхности, чтобы сохранить качество рисунка и требуемый световой эффект.
Физический образец COVER был изготовлен в июне 2026 года. Он демонстрирует основной художественный и конструктивный принцип: соединение образа настенного ковра, алюминиевого корпуса и внутренней контурной подсветки. При этом возможность изменения размеров, цвета и орнамента сохраняет за COVER статус развиваемой концептуальной серии. Каждый новый вариант требует художественной и инженерной адаптации.
COVER продолжает исследовательский подход проекта «ТРЕНДЫ», в котором светильник рассматривается не только как функциональное оборудование, но и как носитель смыслов. Концепция показывает, как локальный культурный код может быть переосмыслен без буквального копирования и превращён в актуальный предмет дизайна.
Главная ценность COVER заключается в соединении коллективной и личной памяти. Это световой объект, который сначала вызывает восторг узнавания, а затем возвращает ощущение тепла. Прошлое в нём не воспроизводится, а становится источником нового образа.

COVER is a wall-mounted light object that reinterprets an image of Soviet domestic life and the 1990s: a red carpet on the wall. The familiar object becomes a contemporary light source. Internal contour lighting emphasises its silhouette, ornament and depth, producing a soft decorative glow. The concept is built around two emotions: the delight of recognising a cultural code and warm personal nostalgia. COVER does not reproduce a historical interior or function as retro decoration. It brings collective memory into a contemporary space and turns the wall into a stage for a luminous statement. The dimensions, colour and graphic pattern can be customised for each project while preserving the central idea. The luminaire is intended for lobbies, bars, restaurants, showrooms, representative and residential interiors requiring an emotional focal point. A physical sample manufactured in June 2026 demonstrates the feasibility of the concept and provides a foundation for further project-specific development.
COVER is a concept for a wall-mounted luminaire and art object developed within MDM-LIGHT’s TRENDS project. Its starting point is one of the most recognisable images of Soviet domestic life and the 1990s: a red carpet hanging on the wall. For many people, it is associated with domestic warmth, family photographs, celebrations and childhood interiors. In COVER, this object of collective memory is transferred into contemporary design and transformed into a source of light.
The project is built around recognition. At first, the viewer sees a familiar silhouette and ornament. A second look reveals that this is neither a real carpet nor a decorative replica, but a luminous object. This discrepancy creates the first emotional response: surprise and delight at an unexpected interpretation of a shared cultural code. It is followed by a more personal feeling of warm nostalgia connected with individual memories and experience.
COVER does not attempt to reconstruct a historical interior or use the past merely as an ironic reference. Its purpose is to demonstrate that a familiar domestic image can become material for contemporary industrial design. The carpet is no longer a background element. It becomes an active part of the space, attracting attention, establishing a compositional centre and turning the wall into part of the lighting scenario.
The luminaire is designed for wall mounting. Its structural foundation is an aluminium body with internal contour LED lighting. Light emphasises the outer silhouette, strengthens the perception of the ornament and creates a sense of depth. The soft decorative glow retains an association with domestic comfort while expressing it through contemporary lighting technology. When switched off, COVER is perceived as a graphic interior object. When illuminated, it gains additional visual volume and becomes an emotional focal point.
The concept allows extensive customisation. Dimensions, proportions, colour and graphic pattern may change according to the architecture and objectives of each project. The ornament may remain close to the recognisable image of a red wall carpet or receive a more restrained, contemporary or specially commissioned interpretation. This makes it possible to apply the central idea to spaces of different scales and characters without turning the family into a collection of identical decorative products.
In a commercial interior, COVER can become a point of attraction, a photo location or a visual symbol of the venue. It is intended for bars, restaurants, lobbies, showrooms, boutiques, public areas and executive offices. In a residential interior, the luminaire can serve as an emotionally meaningful art object connecting personal memory with contemporary aesthetics. Its purpose is not to provide primary illumination, but to create a luminous accent, atmosphere and recognisable identity.
For adaptation to a specific project, engineering development must determine the dimensions and weight of the structure, wall-mounting method, position of the LED sources, uniformity of the contour glow, thermal conditions, location of the power supply and access for maintenance. The material and production method of the decorative surface must also be selected to preserve the quality of the pattern and achieve the intended lighting effect.
A physical COVER sample was manufactured in June 2026. It demonstrates the central artistic and structural principle: the combination of the wall-carpet image, an aluminium body and internal contour lighting. At the same time, the ability to alter the dimensions, colour and ornament allows COVER to remain an evolving conceptual family. Each new version requires both artistic and engineering adaptation.
COVER continues the research-based approach of the TRENDS project, in which a luminaire is considered not only as functional equipment, but also as a carrier of meaning. The concept demonstrates how a local cultural code can be reinterpreted without literal copying and transformed into a relevant contemporary design object.
The principal value of COVER lies in the connection between collective and personal memory. It is a light object that first creates the delight of recognition and then returns a feeling of warmth. The past is not reproduced; it becomes the source of a new image.
