Lighting master plan for the city of Perm (implementation of stage 1 on Komsomolsky Prospect)
Project goals: The main goal of the project is to create an atmosphere of positive mood among residents and visitors of the city through a harmonious combination of lighting solutions and elements of the urban environment.
Before the start of work on conceptual solutions, a complete analysis of the planned central layout area was carried out, including a visual survey, a historical survey of cultural heritage sites and places of interest, design and pre-design solutions for individual buildings and territories developed by that time, as well as regulatory documents of the Perm region.
The result of the work was a lighting master plan, including structural schemes that regulate the light composition and lighting parameters for all lighting systems. It included: 469 buildings with architectural lighting, 30 landscape elements, 37 streets with a total length of 79.7 km, «Communal bridge» with architectural lighting, 9 lighting ensembles, 15 lighting scenarios, lighting calculations and working documentation were completed.
Developing a lighting master plan is a large, complex job that is performed by a team of professionals specializing in different areas. These are architects, lighting designers, lighting technicians, constructors, planners, specialists in the design of cultural heritage sites, specialists in the field of control systems, etc. In addition to the specialists listed above, the most important part of the work is the work of the economic block, which creates, even before the execution of the working design (or in parallel), an economic and financial model of the master plan implementation process. Specialists prepare the necessary estimate documentation, take part in the preparation of competitions and auctions, helping the client in developing the necessary tender documentation, create outlays, undergo price and other examinations, etc. Without special knowledge and experience in such work, there will be no success. But the hardest part of the process is the implementation of the lighting master plan, without it the development of concepts makes little sense. At this stage, production units are coming to the process, which must have the appropriate experience in performing such work. Foremen and site managers control the installation process at dozens of objects included in the master plan simultaneously. These are objects of architectural, landscape, street and road lighting, smart illumination objects, small architectural forms, etc.
Komsomolsky Prospekt is one of the widest streets in the city with a boulevard and linden alley. With the use of modern multifunctional lighting installations, united by a general control system, we create lighting scenarios that cooperate with the rhythm and significant events in city life. Every day, lighting installations operate in warm white mode in the light range of 3000-4000K and are darkened after 21:00 (in autumn and winter) by 50 percent. The combination of such factors as strict city architecture, chaotic development and long winters, creates a need for colored artificial lighting. This need is met by festive lighting with variable lighting scenarios.
Successful implementation of the lighting master plan leads to increased budget revenues and enhances the social status and prestige of the city, while also increases self-esteem of residents. Based on the results of the implementation of the first stage of the lighting master plan on Komsomolsky Prospekt in Perm, a sociological study was conducted. The survey of city residents concerned the existing and expected quality of the lighting environment in terms of functional and aesthetic characteristics. According to the survey results, the overwhelming majority of respondents, 94.2%, approve of the renewal of evening lighting. The number of those who approve is even greater than the number of those aware of this program. Perm residents usually refer to aesthetics, convenience and safety as the main reasons for approval.
The project for implementing the lighting master plan has already received positive feedback from city residents. The overwhelming majority of respondents support the need to continue the program - 94.4%. At the same time, 73% of respondents expressed their continued statement decisively. City residents propose to conduct a lighting master plan in their area, in the yard and on the street where they live.
