The memorial sign to Baltic sailors who participated in the East Prussian operation, by architect M.T. Suslov and sculptor V.V. Morgunov was erected in Kaliningrad in 1978. Since 2007 the monument has the status of the object of cultural heritage of local importance. Territorially and contextually, the monument complex is inscribed in the square square, which has a rather structural layout with planted lines of spruce trees along the boundary of the site
The lighting concept implies the following hierarchy. The primary one is to draw attention to the cultural and monumental heritage. Since the monument is located within the boundaries of the projected territory of the museum quarter and should work as one of the points of attraction, including for the tourist traffic of the city. Secondary - creating a comfortable lighting environment in the area
To solve this problem, the work with the monument is divided into several layers of development:
- By working properly between the background and the object, the monument and the boat are emphasized
- By working on color/temperature contrasts, it is possible to separate the boat and the stele from the wall and to work on the perception of space in depth.
- The structure of Christmas trees and working with it will help to strengthen both the accent component and the perception of the background volume of the space.
- Among other things, one of the directions of elaboration is the functional lighting of the area. It can go both in the way of bright space and its general strengthening, and in the direction of reducing the light on the area to increase the contrast component
The main thesis for the technical component of the solutions is to create the most concealed and integrated light in the given space
As for the boat itself, it can be seen to work in cool blue shades to reinforce its belonging to the water element. Moreover, the fountain beneath it allows for several levels of blue in the monument. For example, both the lighting of the water itself in turquoise, and work along the boat from deeper shades of blue to lighter and white at the bow of the ship. Neat, accent and general work is allowed on the upper deck and its elements to create a cohesive look and volume
The key element of "wow" in the perception of the object is planned to create the effect of caustics from the smoothness of the fountain under the ship, as well as a soft dynamic shimmer of blue shades on the ship, which will revitalize the perception of the object.
In the complex elaboration of the whole monument it is recommended to work with the territory with the architect's hands to create and strengthen the daytime component as a point of attraction. This collaborative work will allow for a more intelligent integration of light
The graphics of the submission are made with markers and paints on cardboard with further refinement on a tablet. The advantage of this presentation is the speed of visualization of the general idea and stylization, operating to the atmosphere of the place and the concept
